Partington Advanced Engineering is an innovative composites-centric multi-materials engineering firm located in the heart of Deakin Universities’ Geelong Future Economy Precinct.

Partington Adv. Eng. services a range of industries looking to benefit from light-weighting or adding functionality to their structural applications through advanced design practices and strategic materials selection.

Partington’s enabling technology is centred around the principle of multi-material design. Solutions are never constrained by one material definition; we look at applications in a more holistic manner, capitalising on the unique properties across a portfolio of materials to realise an optimal result.

Execution of these solutions require very specific design competencies, practices and principles.

Using Multi-Materials Technology:

Light-weighting is an obvious opportunity for such technology; typically, we would use advanced materials such as carbon fibre composites for the structural backbone of a design, then additional geometry or functionality is realised by strategic selection of supplementary materials, which could be advanced, conventional, or both. This approach offers significant improvement over conventional application of high-performance materials such as composites, that are typically implemented in a material substitution manner. Advanced materials such as carbon fibre composites have very different qualities to metals and process very differently. The whole design needs to be sympathetic to these characteristics.

This original approach starts with the design phase, developing potential design solutions, as well as methods for modelling potential design solutions using computer-aided engineering. Generally, we do that at all levels; discreet material (micro), composite material(s) (macro) and component (global).

Carbon fibre composites are a key enabling technology for Partington Adv. Eng.; being in close proximity to Carbon Nexus where they are developing new carbon fibre materials is of strategic significance. Although we’re a multi-materials company, carbon fibre composites are a core competency and offers exceptional light-weighting opportunities.

Research Collaborations

The Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus homes the Institute for Frontier Materials and the School of Engineering, both being located within several hundred metres of Partington Adv. Eng. We are fortunate to have several research collaborations and can access the facilities for very specific and fundamental materials testing, materials characterisation, design practices, and 3D printing.
